Series I Want to Read in 2019

Renegades

By now who hasn’t heard of this series? As a huge fan of the Marvel universe, Young Justice, and Teen Titans, I love anything and everything super hero related. It’s surprising how few books there are involving super heroes and villains given how many movies have been coming out about them. Knowing that Marissa Meyer is coming out with a series about super heroes and villains had me hooked right away. I remember reading Cinder back in high school and absolutely loving how action packed and thrilling it was. From what I remember, I really enjoyed Marissa Meyer’s writing and can’t wait to get sucked into this universe and what is hopefully, an action packed read.

Lunar Chronicles

Talking about the Lunar Chronicles, I really need to finish them this year. I’ve absolutely loved the first book. Cinder is one of the most interesting characters I’ve read from in a while and can’t wait to read more of her. The last book I’ve read in this series is Scarlet and I wasn’t a huge fan of it, at all. I thought it was rushed, the romance wasn’t a hit for me, and everything was just way too insta-love, it was quite bland for me to be honest. I think that’s why I’ve been putting it off for a while, but have recently started to get excited about the series again after hearing people tell me how much they love the characters from Cress.

Strange the Dreamer

I love myself duologies that like to cripple my emotions and destroy me. According to the book community, this series is a perfect fit for my needs. I’ve been in such a mood for picking up fantasy books that involve our main character or group of characters hunting for something they’re desperate for, whether that’s ancient artifacts or for revenge. I love the thrill I get while flipping through the pages and seeing how the characters manage to pursue the unexpected challenges and the sometimes inevitable betrayals that unravel along the way. I’ve heard so many amazing things about this book such as how beautiful Laini Taylor’s writing and world building. I’ve been so unbelievably excited to have it on my shelf, ready to be read, but at the same time, have been putting it off because I want to find the most perfect moment to pick it up when I can do nothing but just spend the day reading through all the words that Laini Taylor has written.

Grisha Trilogy

I love Leigh Bardugo with all my heart and the Six of Crows is my all time favorite everything.

Obviously, I want to pick up this trilogy, especially now that we have a Netflix show coming out for it! I managed to spoil myself reading the Six of Crows, which I didn’t know at the time is a companion series to this trilogy. I also know that I might not like it as much as I love and adore Six of Crows but I’m excited to give it a read as I really want to know more about this world and so I can spend all my money to buy King of Scars and cry.

Raven Boys

I’ve also managed to spoil myself for this series earlier last year. At this point, I’ve definitely forgotten what I spoiled myself on so I’m ready to jump back into it. I’ve been really enjoying reading books about a group of friends and seeing how they’re relationships play along with the plot. As a loner who spends most of her time reading, I really enjoy getting emotionally attached to a group of characters, haha. Also I’ve heard that there’s paranormal themes to this series and that the writing style is quite unique? I haven’t read any books that have been described as “unique” so I’m quite excited to pick it up.

Ember in the Ashes

Ah, an Ember in the Ashes. I remember reading the first book in this series and absolutely falling in love with. I thought Sabaa Tahir was doing amazing things and breaking this rut that young adult had fallen into with the same tropes and the same type of characters. In the first book there was violence, questioning of morality, diversity, oh how I love the diversity, and of course the heart-breaking despair these two characters carry that are just so uniquely raw and shocking. I was so excited picking up the second book and flew through it as well but enjoyed it much less. I started to dislike Laia a lot and some of the characters made decisions that made me want to drive my head through a wall.  I think when I first started reading the series, I was getting back into reading books so I’m sure that I didn’t properly assess my thoughts and feelings on how I felt about this book. So I’m definitely excited to give this series a reread since it sparked so much joy in me when I was reading the first book.
