June Wrap Up

Hello, hi, how are you?

I know it’s been a really long time since I posted but life’s caught up to me and I haven’t had much time to sit down and blog, more or less read.

June has been the weirdest reading month ever. I’ve been slugging through this summer slump and haven’t had the time to properly stay creative. My internship’s been keeping me busy and I’m trying to spend the next two months getting my life together so I can have the best of both worlds by being both creatively productive as well as being productive with uni and my career. Life’s hard guys.

This June, I managed to read three books.

My least favorite read this month, is definitely Emergency Contact by Mary H.K Choi. I was really excited to read this book for many reasons, one of them being the aesthetic cover. This cover is a perfect mix of golden lining and that light millennial pink that I want all my accessories and clothes to match this design. The content though, did little to nothing to amaze me. I’ve got the details of my dislike drafted into a review but to keep it general, the plot didn’t wow me in. I feel like nothing really happened in the book at all, there wasn’t much substance. I gave it a solid 3 out of 5 stars.

A Curse so Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer was my first fantasy in a while. I’ve been really struggling with fantasy recently and I’ve only been picking up adult romance or other forms of contemporary fiction. I was really excited to read this book because I read Brigid Kemmer’s other works and absolutely loved them. This was a fun fantasy read and as always, the characters have such intriguing story arcs that you can’t help but keep reading. While it wasn’t a 5 star read, I still really enjoyed and gave it a 4 out of 5 stars. I don’t know how I’m going to wait for the next book, after that ending.

My favorite read this month is The Bride Test by Helen Hoang. This book is so different and unique in such a beautiful and important way. I loved learning more about autism and reading through the struggles from the eyes of an autistic character. It was so endearing yet sexy at the same time. It was a fast read, right to the point, yet at the same time very deep. It’s a 5 out of 5 for me.

What are some of your favorite reads this June? This June, I also started a new Instagram centered around books and bullet journaling. Check it out and give me a follow if you want at “thefictiongiant”!
