March Wrap Up

Happy Tuesday everyone!

This is a bit late but I’ve compiled a list of books, music, and youtube channels I’ve been watching this past month. I thought that I’d share these non-bookish lists of mine so that you can find something new to listen to or watch!

Read

March was a weird month. I started off the month with the intention to read as many books as I can during my Spring Break. As expected with everything that’s been happening, my monthly goal went down the drain. I only managed to read three books.

My favorite read of this month is Song of Achilles” by Madeline Miller. The writing in this book is so beautiful and impactful. I have a review written up that’ll be going up soon where I basically verbally cry about how this book is a masterpiece that deserves all the awards and recognition. It’s a five star read from me and has definitely been added to my list of favorites.

I also read “Undercover Bromance” this month and while I did really enjoy this book, it wasn’t my favorite. I was a bit disappointed by it. I had pretty high expectations for this book as “Bromance Bookclub”, the first book, is one my favorite reads of the year. The romance in this book didn’t start till the second half of the book and I wish we got more of it in the beginning. This book had more of a revenge plot line which was interesting to read about but it didn’t really have the same level of involvement from the bookclub as we got in the first book. I found myself missing the witty banter and jovial conversations of some of the side characters that we got to meet in the first book. That being said, the second half of the book really did pick things up for me and made laugh out loud and remember why I loved the first book as much as I did.

I’m trying to get back into audiobooks and in March, I decided to pick up a small one to listen to on my walks. My oh my, this book though. “When Breath Becomes Air” is written by a neurosurgeon resident who finds out he has cancer. It explores the meaning of life and the writing is just so beautiful. This audiobook is short but it leaves a dent in you that’ll make you question life yourself. As I haven’t read many memoirs, I don’t have much to compare it with. As a book itself, memoir or not, I think this is a solid four star read for me. All I can say is that if you’re not triggered by the topics discussed in this book, give it a read. I suggest the audiobook because the narrators do an amazing job and you get sucked into this man’s journey.

Morgan’s videos are the softest, most peaceful and cozy videos you’ll find on YouTube. Her aesthetically edited videos are always full of scenic shots of her cozy house and the beautiful Pacific Northwest outdoors. She accompanies her video with an amazing score of music that effortlessly stiches together each shot. I start the day and end the day with a video of hers because what better way to start or end the day than with a cup of tea?

I recently discovered this youtuber and am so happy I found her. She’s got such a cozy aesthetic and her videos are clean and fresh. She recently got back into reading and I’m having such a fun time listening to her thoughts on books. She also has some journaling videos and discusses kpop stuff. I watch every one of her videos even though I don’t follow kpop because she has such a nice soothing voice and I love her white aesthetic.

I’m always looking for some long reading vlogs to watch and Gabby over at Gabbyreads has a huge selection of them. She has a more busy aesthetic compared to videos you may find on Milkyboos or Morgan Long’s channels but she’s got a butt ton of bookish recommendations and discussions that are easy to listen to and have definitely helped me expand my reading tastes.
