Spring and Summer Pre-Orders

Sea of Tranquility

Release Date: April 5th, 2022

Goodreads Summary

The award-winning, best-selling author of Station Eleven and The Glass Hotel returns with a novel of art, time, love, and plague that takes the reader from Vancouver Island in 1912 to a dark colony on the moon three hundred years later, unfurling a story of humanity across centuries and space.

Edwin St. Andrew is eighteen years old when he crosses the Atlantic by steamship, exiled from polite society following an ill-conceived diatribe at a dinner party. He enters the forest, spellbound by the beauty of the Canadian wilderness, and suddenly hears the notes of a violin echoing in an airship terminal–an experience that shocks him to his core.

This book sounds mystical, mysterious, and eerie. The cover itself feels soft, airbrushed and empty. I don’t know how to describe it but after reading “Station Eleven”, I’ve come to realize that the author has a talent for putting together a “loose” plot and somehow, have it carry depth and heaviness that pulls readers into the story full of interwoven connections and gripping writing. I like going in knowing very little about the overall plot. The main thing that got me interested in pre-ordering this book is that we follow such drastically different timelines and concepts. I’ve never thought of mixing the early 1900’s with outer space. I love historical fiction and I love science fiction. If anyone is going to put the two genres together, it’s going to be Emily St. John Mandel.

Time is a Mother

Release Date: April 5th, 2022

Goodreads Summary

How else do we return to ourselves but to fold

The page so it points to the good part”

In this deeply intimate second poetry collection, Ocean Vuong searches for life among the aftershocks of his mother’s death, embodying the paradox of sitting within grief while being determined to survive beyond it.

If I haven’t talked about “On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous” by Ocean Vuong, then I’m not succeeding in my mission to get everyone to read it. Ocean Vuong first and foremost is a poet. Going into his first fictional piece, “On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous”, I was not aware of this . After reading it, it’s undeniable. Ocean Vuong is born to make words read, feel, taste, and smell like the oldest of old wines. His fictional book is pretty hard to read emotionally and I’m both nervous and excited to see how much his new poetry collection is going to wreck me. Ocean Vuong does not waste words so going from reading a fictional book which does have more words than a poetry collection, I can’t wait to see what he does with the a smaller amount of words.

Book of Night

Release Date: May 3rd, 2022

Goodreads Summary

#1 New York Times bestselling author Holly Black makes her stunning adult debut with Book of Night, a modern dark fantasy of shadowy thieves and secret societies in the vein of Ninth House and The Night Circus

In Charlie Hall’s world, shadows can be altered, for entertainment and cosmetic preferences—but also to increase power and influence.

Holly Black has somehow been an author I avidly followed both in elementary school, middle school, and college. Her world building is transcendent, her plot is gripping and atmospheric, and her romance is all consuming. “Wicked King”, the second book in “The Cruel Prince” series, is one of my favorite books of all time. It’s also the best sequel I’ve ever written. If you didn’t like the first book, “The Cruel Prince”, hold on because the second book is god tier. It’s amazing.

I’m so excited to pick up “Book of Night” because I think that a Holly Black who’s not restricted by age based genres is going to be ruthless with her politics, romance, and magic. I can’t wait to see what she does with this book, and what’s to follow now that she’s stepped into adult fantasy.

Also, this cover is just gorgeous.

Inadequate Heir

Release Date: May 24th, 2022 [Paperback, Audiobook already published]

Goodreads Summary

Return to the world of The Bridge Kingdom in this sensuous fantasy full of romance and intrigue that is perfect for fans of From Blood and Ash and A Court of Silver Flames.

A soldier raised as heir to an empire, Zarrah is motivated by two truths. The first is that the Veliant family murdered her mother. And the second is that her pursuit of vengeance will put every last one of them in their graves.

I’d like to take the title of the official “The Bridge Kingdom” fangroup leader. Listen people, I discovered this series before Tik Tok did. “The Bridge Kingdom” series is a politics heavy, fantasy romance series consisting of multiple duologies. I think that there’s going to be three sets of duologies in this. So far we’ve got a duology on Aren and Lara and the third book, “The Inadequate Heir” is the start of a new duology about two new characters.

The audiobook of this book is already published but I like to read it physically and my oh my I think I’m the most excited about this pre-order. I absolutely love Danielle Jensen’s writing, it’s so atmospheric. No one does fantasy romance like her and honestly, I think that it’s important to recognize the fantasy aspect of the genre shouldn’t be ignored. “The Bridge Kingdom” world has such a visual, atmospheric setting with a ton of politics that’s going to have you hooked from page one.

The first book gave major Lara Croft vibes and looks like one of our main characters in this book, Zarrah, is out for blood so I don’t think we’re going to be lacking any action in this book.
