February Hopefuls

Here’s a couple of books I’m hoping to get to by the end of this month.

Kulti by Mariana Zapata

goodreads summary

“Trust me, I’ve wanted to punch you in the face a time or five.” When the man you worshipped as a kid becomes your coach, it’s supposed to be the greatest thing in the world. Keywords: supposed to. It didn’t take a week for 27-year-old Sal Casillas to wonder what she’d seen in the international soccer icon – why she’d ever had his posters on her wall or ever envisioned marrying him and having super-playing soccer babies. Sal had long ago gotten over the worst non-break-up in the history of imaginary relationships with a man who hadn’t known she’d existed. So she isn’t prepared for this version of Reiner Kulti who shows up to her team’s season: a quiet, reclusive shadow of the explosive, passionate man he’d once been.

I’m slowly but surely making my way through Mariana Zapata’s backlist before I get to “All Rhodes Lead Here”. I started off my Mariana Zapata journey with “From Lukov with Love” which is all about two competitor figure skating rivals falling in love while being forced to work together. It wasn’t my favorite which seems to be a pretty big unpopular opinion. I then read “The Wall of Winnipeg and Me” which I loved so much more. That one was a football (American Football) romance. This one features soccer or actual football and I’m really excited to pick this one up. My favorite line from the plot summary is When the man you worshipped as a kid becomes your coach, it’s supposed to be the greatest thing in the world. Keywords: supposed to. I’m expecting a lot of banter and a nice slow burn which I’m sure is guaranteed by how thick and heavy this book is lol.

The Charm Offensive by Alison Cochrun

goodreads summary

Dev Deshpande has always believed in fairy tales. So it’s no wonder then that he’s spent his career crafting them on the long-running reality dating show Ever After. As the most successful producer in the franchise’s history, Dev always scripts the perfect love story for his contestants, even as his own love life crashes and burns. But then the show casts disgraced tech wunderkind Charlie Winshaw as its star.

I don’t watch any dating reality TV shows except “Love is Blind” so I’m not well versed in the Bachelor/Bachelorotte Nation but what I am well versed in is books where someone falls in love with someone they’re not supposed to lol. I have a feeling that while this book is about a dating show, it’s going to be discussing some pretty heavy topics. My only wish with this book is that the Indian guy’s name wasn’t Dev. I cannot wait for the day when I pickup a book or show where the Indian guy’s name isn’t Dev, Kunal, Kumal, Raj, oh gosh especially Raj lol. Honestly, I fell like Dev is becoming the new Raj.

A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas

goodreads summary

I can’t talk about this book much except that I want to read it this month. I’m hoping to finish this entire series this month, I’ve got three books left and I’m ready. “A Court of Mist and Fury” left off in a very tense scene and that cliffhanger was insane. I don’t know if its necessarily a cliffhanger as much as that the author lit the entire plot line on fire and left readers who were reading this in real time in shock while she wrote what I’m assuming is going to be an epic follow up. I honestly don’t know how people read this series in real time. Personally, I’m glad the entire series is already out because I don’t think I could have waited for the next books.
