I think that we can all agree that Stacy Abrams is a modern day, walking revolution. Her political achievements, such as her project dedicated to increase voter registration, is nothing short but inspiring. I recently listened to a podcast about how her dream to become a governor came to be. How in this moment of discrimination, straight-out racism, led her to bring herself on the forefront of one of the most memorable elections. She talked about how she brought herself up and worked through a failure that was publicly broadcasted and talked about. Failing is hard for everyone but imagine having your failure discussed amongst millions of people. She offers three steps to set affective goals and how to pick yourself up after failure. It was a nice, quick podcast episode so feel free to check it out for some morning motivation.
Ever since I finished Nevermoor, I’ve got the itch for middle grade books. I heard from someone that this book was really cute and when I looked it up, the cover was just so gorgeous that I had to buy it. I’m only fifty pages in and honestly, I’m LOVING IT. In my opinion, it’s a bit better than Nevermoor lol in the cozy sense. This story has the aura of a classic Halloween movie that everyone has grown up watching. The writing sucks you in right away and you feel connected with the children. I honestly don’t want to give too much away because I’m still in the beginning and also because there’s no other way to perfectly sum up the tone of this book other than it opens up like Hocus Pocus or an earlier classic Disney movie.
I don’t always listen to music in the background when I’m studying or doing routine tasks but I’ve gotten back into the habit of looking up something up on YouTube. It’s always comforting to have something in the background sometimes, just something that’s subtle enough to listen to but not get distracted. I have no idea how this popped up in my recommendation’s but I found a whole new genre of background ASMR music that blends white noise/weather/fireplace noises with olden time songs. I think it’s such a charming, calming background playlist but my friend says it sounds creepy lol so I guess I’ll leave a link here for you to make up your own mind.
On the same note of amazing women going ahead and sharing their failures, I have to bring Miss U.S.A to your attention. I came across this YouTube video and when I tell you it made me cry, it MADE ME CRY. Similar to Stacy Abram, Deshauna Barber failed in the public eye, not once, not twice, not thrice, but SIX TIMES before she finally won. Her story of how she kept going and her relentlessness to win was more than just inspiring. It was eye opening. Her story of how she was backed with so much support and having a person who believed in her no matter what was so wholesome. It’s rare and not often that many of us find people who have such unfaltering belief in us, even after we fail over and over again. It’s even harder to have faith in ourselves to keep pushing ourselves. Deshauna Barber was lucky to have this person to push her and amazing for also having that initial strength and belief in herself to never give up. Watching this video was eye opening because it showed the power of what can happen if we all believe in ourselves and stop holding ourselves back and keep pushing ourselves off the floor, again and again, each time we fall.
