Autumn is the season of coziness, fairy lights, reading under a pile of blankets, and if you’re from the South, breezy nights that aren’t suffocating and sweat inducing.
When I think of fall reading, I think of diving into a dark academia book or story with a plot that’s drowning in dark fantasy and morally grey characters and paranormal creatures who you can’t help but love. I think of lyrical writing and of course, as an all year round romance reader, I think of small town romances and the mountain of historical romances that are waiting for me to fall into.
There are a ton of books that I want to get into the next couple of months but I’m going to keep it short in this post. I’ll probably have a couple of these “fall reading lists” posts go up over this season but today, I’m going to introduce you to three reads that are pretty high on my TBR.

Nothing screams autumn than a cozy mystery, especially a cozy middle grade mystery. The way I remember autumn in my childhood was through ABC halloween movies that ran on repeat like Hocus Pocus, Matilda, or The Scary Godmother. There’s something comforting to think back about those quality family movies and I love how that same joy and warmth can be found in middle grade books. I’m not going to lie, this book found its way onto my bookshelves because of it’s aesthetic. Everything from the cover art to the way the cover feels, screams autumn and coziness. The illustrations in this book are so beautiful. I’m also looking forward to picking this book up because I’ve been meaning to read more middle grade after I started my middle grade reading journey with “Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crowe” by Jessica Townsend.

I’ve seen this book pop up in the corners of the book community and heard the words, mesmerizing, gripping, and stunning associated with it so what better time to pick it up then during my favorite season? I know little to nothing about this book and honestly, I’m hoping to keep it that way, but the little I do know is that it potentially has some Shakespearean elements to it. This book gives off a strong, higher literature kind of vibe that’s insinuating that it could be a work of or similar to a work of classic literature and that vibe is exactly what can be shelved in my heart as dark academia. It’s also not that long of a book so I’m hoping to spend a cloudy Sunday with a cup of hot tea reading this book from start to finish.

This book got all the buzz a few years ago and I ended up picking it up in the peak of its popularity because of that. As things usually go, I got distracted and never picked it up. I also was kind of nervous about picking it up because this book got a ton of meh reviews.
I don’t know why I was nervous about picking it up though because a lot of people felt the same way about the author’s earlier work, “Enchantment of Ravens” and I remember loving that book when I read it. I haven’t read much fantasy in a long time and diving back into that genre can be a bit daunting so I thought the best way to do that is to probably pick up a YA fantasy from an author I’ve already enjoyed reading from. I don’t know much about this book but I believe it follows a librarian who’s working in a magical library?
What are three books you’re looking forward to pick up this autumn? And what book are you most excited for me to read?
