Weekly Wrap Up #2

Broken Back, Breakdowns, and Burnout

I apologize if this weekly wrap up feels a bit lack luster because honestly, that’s how this past week has been for me and why this is going out a day later than I intended for it to. I started off the week on somewhat of a high because Tuesday, May 17th, was the day the new Christina Lauren book and Emma Straub book were being released. The next day, or rather that night, I managed to pull something in my upper back and woke up in a ton of pain to the point where I couldn’t lift my right arm up to comb my hair or get dressed. This past week was just a week of unexpected surprises and a lot of life things. There have been many mental health showers because it’s way too hot for mental health walks in Florida.

I can’t wait for the post Memorial Day Weekend when things will finally settle down and I can find a new routine and properly rest. My goal for the coming week is to relax and do nothing and hopefully catch up on my reading because I barely did any last week.

What I Read

I didn’t do much reading this week. I usually at least finish a book a week and instead of doing that, I just ended up starting a multitude of books to feel around for what I’m in the mood for.

This Time Tomorrow by Emma Straub

I’m halfway through this book and it’s ok so far. I wanted an easy read and this is the perfect easy read book. I thought it was going to be more sad but it’s more wholesome than I expected it to be. I’m not a 40 year old woman, but I can definitely relate to some of her existential crisis.

The Maid by Nita Prose

I started this book two days and ago and I haven’t stopped thinking about it. I’m only 50 pages in and it’s the most wholesome thing ever. I am head over heals in love with the writing and the set up of the story and crime. I hope that this book jump starts me back into the thriller/mystery genre.

What I Watched

The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez

This was a really hard documentary series to watch. Major trigger warnings for child abuse and murder. I watched this series over the last two days and it centers around exploring the systematic failure that lead to the death of an eight year old boy. This documentary series has 6 episodes and follows the trial process of the case and we explore different areas of the government that were involved in the case such as the sheriffs, child services, and education system that really just failed young Gabriel.

Meltdown Three Mile Island

This was such an interesting documentary series and it’s so well put together, it was one of my favorite documentary series that have recently come out. This follows a nuclear plant leak that occurred in 1979 in Three Mile Island, a nuclear plant located in a small Pennsylvania town. It isn’t too sciency for people who are wary of things like that. The director/producer of the show really makes the information palpable and the way these episodes are written or directed build such great tension and a powerful storyline of events that enfolded before, after, and during the leak.
