Shadow and Bone – Leigh Bardugo
Is this going to be the month I set aside my fear of potentially destroying my soul by reading another life changing Leigh Bardugo book? Well it just might be. I have this thing with starting this series because I’m weighed down by this unsurmountable fear that I’m going to love it so much that I’ll destroy myself. I like to call it the pre-reading anxiety, haha. I originally wanted to start of my semester by reading the Six of Crows duology again because it brought me so much happiness last semester and this was the series that rekindled my love for reading. As the days go by though, I’m leaning towards picking up Shadow and Bone instead as I kind of spoiled myself for the Grisha series with some of the stuff that’s been mentioned in the SOC duology. It’s 2019 and it’s a new semester in uni and I’m going to do Leigh Bardugo the right way around this time.
Uprooted – Naomi Novik
I really want to see what Naomi Novik’s all about. I’ve heard nothing but greatness about her books and how Uprooted has female characters who are head strong and powerfully unique. YA literature has been slowly changing to be more accomodating towards showing female readers that woman/girl characters are not always damsels in distress but also can be knights in shining armor. The things I’ve heard about Naomi Novik’s writing has me really excited about this prospect as many say that her books are some of the select few books that showcase strong, independent, smart brained female characters who are most definitley not damsels in distress.
The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue – Mackenzi Lee
It’s been a while since I’ve had a good laugh out loud read. I’ve heard amazing things about this novel and how Mackenzi Lee’s writing is the perfect combination of sarcasm and wittiness that every Herondale fanatic like me will love. Also let’s talk about the representation in this book! Ah, I’m so excited to pick it up. I have a feeling that this will definitely my secondary read while I’m reading something more fantasy heavy like Uprooted or Shadow and Bone.
Gilded Wolves – Roshani Chokshi
I have really high hopes for this book. I have such high hopes that I’m probably going to end up preordering it. The Amazon link has been open on my phone for the past week ever since I’ve heard about the free give away if you pre-order Gilded Wolves. Sadly, I missed the deadline to get the free character cards but I’m still very tempted to pre-order it. I don’t really pre-order books often because I’m always nervous about going into books without having read much of the author’s previous works. Gilded Wolves though, reminds me so much of SOC that my self-restraint is slowly wearing down to where it’s almost non-existent. I’m so intrigued by the plot, I feel as though I’m going to absolutely love it. I’m getting vibes of mischief, fancy sleuthing, and a thrilling ride. What more does a reader need?
