Good evening fellow readers, today I bring forth my first discussion about “Nevermoor” by Jessica Townsend. This discussion will unfortunately encompass some spoilers so be aware before reading ahead. But do not worry, I will only be discussing my thoughts and feelings of the prologue-chapter 5 so there won’t be too many spoilers.
I don’t read much middle grade books but my oh my, what a treat this book is. This book is surprisingly, incredibly, dark for a middle grade book. The way death is explored and how this 11 year old child’s dealing with her life coming to an end is so powerful and deep. I love how Townsend made topics such as heaven and hell, and the whole concept of after so whimsical.
Besides Morrigan’s ability to really narrow down on how to accept death, she’s also such a strong solid character. Honestly, she’s got more of a backbone than some older characters I’ve read about. I love how down to earth her character is and how realistic she is. I also appreciate how her character has depth. We get to see this side of her that’s grappling with her upcoming death and wanting to be loved and seen but also the side of her that’s not afraid to say it as it is.
My favorite character, my favorite scene, my favorite everything in these first few chapters is Jupiter North. Academic Trackers My favorite character, my favorite scene, my favorite everything in this chapter is Jupiter North.
My favorite scene so far has to be Jupiter’s entrance. Everything from the way he was casually leaning against the wall and the palpable awkward silence to the way he just blurts out, “I’m still wearing my hat, aren’t I? Goodness me. How rude.” He arched an eyebrow at his dumbfounded audience. “Don’t be alarmed; I’m ginger.” That scene got me and had me laughing out loud.
Whenever we think about headmasters or characters in a position of leadership, we think of someone who’s quiet, calm, powerful, and silently quirky. Jupiter North on the other hand, I feel will be the exact opposite. His character is giving off this chaotic yet wholesome vibe that I know I will devour.
This discussion post was pretty heavy on character exploration. I blame Jupiter North lol. Who’s your favorite character so far?
i love love love morrigan as a main character! i mean her sass is so so golden. but yeah, i’d have to agree, the second jupiter was introduced i was like oOH I LIKE HIM LOL. this is honestly one of the funniest and strongest starts to a novel i’ve read in a while and i’m so so enjoying it!
