September Wrap Up

Last month, I read three books so I thought I’d share with you three things in my life (including books of course) that I consumed or enjoyed in September!

First of course, let’s talk about, BOOKS.

I read a total of three books and I’m so happy about that. Three books has become a good reading number for me because my life’s gotten so busy that reading even one book is a success.

Had Me at Hola

My favorite book though has to be, Had Me at Hola. This is such a fun, fast, sexy read. It follows these two characters who come together to act in a rom com. There’s many things I love about this book but the top of the list is Ashton. He’s such an interesting main character with a back story that’s not the norm of male counterparts in a romance novel. He’s a single dad dealing with some pretty intense things from the past. And my oh my, his character is the perfect combination of sweet and awkward, with reserved and sexy.

Pride and Prejudice

I’ve been reading Pride and Prejudice for so long and I’m so glad I finally finished it last month. I really enjoyed this book after I hit the middle and things started to pick up. The movie though made me appreciate the book so much more and I definitely want to reread it soon.

Empire of Sand

I had such an interesting experience reading Empire of Sand. I really wasn’t liking this book at all in the beginning. I couldn’t care about the main character at all and I thought the writing was a bit choppy and at times cringey. But as soon as Amun, our second main character, came into the story and the setting changed, things picked up. The writing was better and I got sucked into the story and the romance. I also just loved how Indian/South Asian this book was.

I’m going to be having reviews going up for all these books so be on the look out for them!

MUSIC

I’ve started making a calm playlist where I list a bunch of soft songs. Soft meaning not loud or pop like but more on the acoustic side. So far, I’ve got 21 songs in it. Three of my favorites are:

I can’t believe it took me this long to discover Ben Platt. And now I’m going to make it my mission to listen to all his songs and keep adding them to my library to listen and cry over. I’m also so happy that mxmtoon came out with new music. I love both of the songs listed above but I think that I liked “Ok On Your Own” a bit more because it’s so thematically appropriate for last month as I’m…. All alone? Lol. And of course there’s The Macarons, the royal rulers of soft acoustic music. I love how every month, I discover a new favorite from their published works. Their covers are just perfection.

SHOWS

Call the Midwife

This was the show I watched after finishing the “Pride and Prejudice” 2005 adaptation. Basically, I wanted more period drama and this was what I stumbled upon lol. If you watched Zoe Sugg’s vlogs for a while, I’m sure you’ve heard her mention the “Call the Midwife” Christmas Special many times throughout her vlogmas series so when I found out it was on Netflix, I quickly started to binge watch it. I’m not done with the show yet but wow, I’ve made a significant dent into it last month. There’s so much I can say about this show  but no matter what I say, I feel like it won’t be enough? I love the familial relationships between the midwives and the sisters, as well as with the doctor of the town. I think that this show does a magnificent job showing how life is for not so privileged people and how brave and resilient mothers are, when they’re pregnant and post having their child. I’ve cried more than once but I really am enjoying it. Be aware of trigger warnings before going in! Some include abortion, loss of life, cancer, homophobia, rape, etc.

New Girl

I finally finished this show this month. I don’t want to speak too much of it because I have a mini review coming out soon but I think that it’s an easy watch. Unfortunately, I thought that the plot/story line fell a bit flat towards the second half of the show and just wasn’t as gripping or entertaining as the beginning.

The Crown

This show is the epitome of historical drama. It’s so cinematic and glorious. Every scene is intentional and well thought out. This has quickly become my Sunday show, mostly because it’s been raining the past few Sundays and this is the perfect rainy day show. It’s the type of show you want to watch on your bed, under the covers, with a hot cup of tea. This family is honestly living history, and it’s crazy watching this show and learning so much about the sacrifices they have made and how far they’re willing to destroy themselves and their loved ones/others to protect the monarchy.

What is one book, song, and show that you loved in September?
