Weekly Wrap Up #4

The sun is setting and the weekend is ending, which means it’s time for me to grab a cup of tea, sit outside, and wrap up this week.

This week was a bit of a chaotic one and I didn’t get much reading or watching anything done. I’m feeling super burnt out which I can tell because again, I haven’t finished a book this week and have been breaking up a single episode and watching it in ten minute chunks because I don’t have the emotional energy to sit through it all. I keep staying up way too late because I’ve been feeling super anxious and out of control with everything and waking up feeling nauseous at times.

This entire weekend, I spent my time sitting outside whenever the rain calmed down and slowly worked myself through a book and kept dozing off whenever I get a chance. I’ve been trying to watch an entire episode from start to finish of the new Stranger Things season but I keep getting distracted or pulled into doing other things and I’ve been watching the show in 20 minute intervals. And I hate doing that because I love this show so much.

Not finishing a book or sitting through an entire episode of a show I love are all tell tale signs that I’m just worn out.

I’m really hoping that next week will be much better and that I’ll be able to reestablish some of the routines I’ve loved but haven’t been able to do recently because of various life reasons.

What I Read

Walk the Vanished Earth by Erin Swan

goodreads summary

It took me a while to get to the halfway point of this book and honestly I don’t think I’ve hit it exactly yet, but i’m near to it. I was drawn to this book because of the cover and the blurb hinted that it’s a multigenerational type of story. While I agree that it is, it’s not a true multigenerational story where we knowingly follow a family like in Pachinko by INSERT. Instead, we’re introduced to a wide variety of timelines and characters who we piece together are related to each other. A lot of the reviews on the back of book say that it’s a climate dystopian novel and while it kind of is, this book is very literally. The writing is lovely, enchanting, and sometimes you have to work to get the meaning behind the word the author chose to end a sentence with. In other words, it’s not a “on the nose” climate dystopian novel. Or at least it isn’t yet, I’m only almost a halfway through it. This book is just so visceral and nothing like I’ve ever read before so I’ve stopped reading for now because I want to take some notes and take in what I’ve read so far. I can’t wait to finish this book later this coming week.

What I Watched

Stranger Things Season 4

I am not finished with this season so no spoilers please. I’m really enjoying this show. I’ve had this one theory for a couple of seasons so I’m pretty pleased when it sort of came to fruition in the newly released episodes. I genuinely don’t know how to explain how much I love this show and why I love it. I just love anything with friend groups and also seeing friend groups evolve and grow. Seeing how the gang of friends grew from season 1 to season 4 is heart warming but also a bit heart breaking at the same time. It just feels realistic and so well done. I love seeing how characters I used to dislike in season 1 quickly have become my favorite and vice versa. Also the sound track in this season is 10/10. With Top Gun and Stranger Things, I’m compiling myself a great 70’s/80’s sound track.

To Be Read Additions

I feel like I need to clarify – these are not books that I bought, they’re ones I’ve recently heard or saw that I want to eventually read one day.
