Winter Reads

Winter is here, the season of long nights, and teehee, my birthday. Happy birthday month to my fellow Sagittarius’! When I think of winter, I think of snow, cozying up under a blanket, watching a slow moving movie that’ll make me cry until my tear ducts have nothing to give, and tons of hot drinks. I think of Robin Williams movies and Polar Express. I think of my childhood when I used to have huge Christmas parties with family friends and walking through crunchy, icy snow, so we can rush into a nice warm house and eat biryani and mix up sodas because we’re just too cool to being drinking just one soda.

When it comes to winter, my reading taste is nearly as dramatic as me. I lean towards historical fiction and fantasy, but mainly historical fiction. I crave for it so much that I walk into a bookstore, see that a book is historical fiction, and pick it up and buy it even though I know nothing about it except that it’s so big, it’ll probably be at least five pounds.

Today, I thought I’d share a little bit of my Winter TBR. Obviously, I want to read more than just three books in the next couple of months, but I really want to focus on getting to these. There’s one for each month. I don’t really know much about these books to be honest, so I thought that I’d share my initial expectations of them so I can look back on them and see how off after I actually finish the books.

The Gentleman in Moscow: This book was brought to my attention by the lovely tea reads and wow, am I ever so thankful for that. This book feels like something that’ll quickly become my favorite read. I’ve also seen Morgan Long talk about it, and I know that she too loved it. I’ve never read a historical book set in Russia before and I’m so excited to learn more about this time period. My initial reaction towards this book is that it’s going to be something both heart breaking but funny. I think that this book is going to be wholesome and heartwarming but somehow manage to make me cry at the same time.

The Last Namsara: I’m excited to read this because it’s a YA fantasy, it feels like a book that’s underrated and something that not many people reach for. So the fact that I haven’t heard much about it has my interests peaked. I remember hearing in someone’s haul that this book has dragons and a friends to lovers romance, two tropes which I don’t read much of but really want to read more. I’m excepting this book to be an easy read. I’m imagining with a book centered around dragons, there’s got to be some form of political drama which I’m excited to read in a YA fantasy setting. I’m also really excited for the friends to lovers romance. I’m thinking that in this book, it’ll be more of an understated romance that’s just there but not a major focal point.

The Night Circus: This book has all the expectations, not mine, but everyone else’s for me to love it. I’m both skeptical and excited for this book. The Night Circus is pretty much a mystery to me. I know it’s about a reoccurring circus that comes and go and some kind of a duel between two magicians? I know I got the circus part of my brief summary right lol. My first impressions on this extremely hyped book is that it’s going to be whimsical. There’s going to be some overarching mystery element to the story mystery because there’s a disappearing circus. Do the people disappear with the circus? How does the romance play into this? I have a feeling that this is going to be slow, very, very slow moving story that’s going to be full of drama and flowery writing that one appreciates after finishing the book.

Which of these books are you most excited for me to pick up? What are three books you want to get to this winter?
