Going Home for the Holidays!

Books I’m Taking Home With Me For The Holidays

Hello and happy holidays! Happy Christmas Eve to those who celebrate it and happy no school/work for those who don’t. I fall into the later category so I’m going to be spending today driving back home and of course, have a suitcase full of books and journals that are desperate for some attention.

I don’t know about you but I’m an over-packer. I like to be prepared for any situation. So when that comes to books, I bring a book for every mood. It’s honestly such an impractical packing move considering the fact that I don’t read much at home and haven’t even been reading much in general since late October. I’m hoping that these next few days will really get me back into my reading mood.

The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green

This book is my main priority for my holiday reading. If I manage to read this book before the year comes to a close, I’ll be super happy. I’m only 50 pages in and I’m loving it. I’m stuck trying to savor this read and just sit down and read huge chunks of it a time. I haven’t read John Green’s writing in a real long time so I was a bit nervous to see how he’d translate into non-fiction. I can confirm that his writing is even better when he is exploring deep, philosophical earthly questions. I currently have a flashcard wedged in the middle of the book to jot down notes and memorable quotes. Two quotes that I’ve jotted down are: “…humans of the past were as human as we are” and “…yet somehow, they still made time to create art, almost as if art isn’t optional for humans.” It makes sense that those two quotes were the onest that stuck out to me as both a history lover and a creative.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

I feel like I’ve mentioned this book far too much in the past few posts I’ve put out. In fact, you can check it out on my Winter TBR (sorry for the shameless plug lol). To be honest, this book makes me nervous. I have been reading so many books that I’ve never heard of are so out of my comfort zone that I’m kind of nervous to pick this one up. The past few books I’ve read fall a bit flat and were just okay reads but I really want this book to be amazing and change my life. I’m basically hyping this book way too much and I’m nervous I’m going to disappoint myself. What’s a book you’re nervous to read because of both your inner hype and community hype? I don’t think that I’ll finish this book before the end of the year but if I get a good chunk it, I’ll feel accomplished.

The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas

Ah, talking about hype how can we forget about this one. So, I may or may not have read five pages of this book and quickly closed the book on it. I’ve also been avoiding this book mainly because of the hype but also because I read five pages of it and I wasn’t getting into the writing style. I didn’t know if it was my mood or because I haven’t been in much of a reading mood but I knew I had to put it down and give it a fair chance later. I’m desperate for a good romance so I’m hoping that this book fits the bill.

Financial Freedom by Grant Sabatier

In spirit of the New Year, I’m hoping that this book will get some attention before the year wraps up. I bought this book two or three weeks ago because as an adult, money’s a thing and it’s a thing I’m hoping to really get into in the New Year. I also want to branch out the non-fiction I read to more technical reads such as these and flipping through this book felt like a palatable start. Do you have any technical/finance books that you found helpful?

A Wallflower Christmas by Lisa Kleypas

I have no idea what this book is about but Christmas is in the title so I thought that it would be a cute read for the holidays. I’m hoping to pick this one up on Christmas day and blow through it in a day. It’s a pretty short book and I believe that it’s a collection of novellas. I found it in a thrift store and wanted to pick it up. i’ve heard many good things about this author so I wanted to sample her writing before I go hunting for more of her books in the library.
