Birds of California by Katie Cotugno

goodreads summary

Former child actor Fiona St. James dropped out of the spotlight after a spectacularly public crash and burn. The tabloids called her crazy and self-destructive and said she’d lost her mind. Now in her late twenties, Fiona believes her humiliating past is firmly behind her. She’s finally regained a modicum of privacy, and she won’t let anything–or anyone–mess it up.

Unlike Fiona, Sam Fox, who played her older brother on the popular television show Birds of California, loves the perks that come with being a successful Hollywood actor: fame, women, parties, money. When his current show gets cancelled and his agent starts to avoid his calls, the desperate actor enthusiastically signs on for a Birds of California revival. But to make it happen, he needs Fiona St. James.

This cover screams summer. June’s going to be a pretty busy month for me, both in terms of being a fully booked calendar kind of month but also busy in the sense that it’s probably going to be pretty mentally taxing. This is a pretty skinny book so I’m hoping to fly through it. I also love the premise of this book. I don’t read many celebrity romances and it’s not because I’m not a fan of them or anything but I just never seek them out. This one’s been getting a ton of buzz recently and someone at the bookstore told me that it’s the perfect in between read that’s fast paced and entertaining.

Beach Read by Emily Henry

goodreads summary

Augustus Everett is an acclaimed author of literary fiction. January Andrews writes bestselling romance. When she pens a happily ever after, he kills off his entire cast.

They’re polar opposites.

In fact, the only thing they have in common is that for the next three months, they’re living in neighboring beach houses, broke, and bogged down with writer’s block.

I’ve wanted to read this book ever since I finished “Book Lovers” but I’ve been waiting. I’ve been waiting for June and now June is here and I can finally read this book. The cover, the spine, the story, and the title all promise a story that’s going to be a good beach read. I’m also really excited to read this book because from what I can tell, this is people’s most favorite Emily Henry book.

Dance of Thieves by Pearson

goodreads summary

When the patriarch of the Ballenger empire dies, his son, Jase, becomes its new leader. Even nearby kingdoms bow to the strength of this outlaw family, who have always governed by their own rules. But a new era looms on the horizon, set in motion by a young queen, which makes her the target of the dynasty’s resentment and anger.

I don’t know why, but I’ve been itching for a good fantasy. YA is also a genre that I don’t really gravitate towards to much anymore but I’ve seen a video recommending this and when I looked up the plot summary, it just really gripped me. As always, I go into books knowing as little as possible so I can’t tell you what it’s about entirely but I think it’s going to involve a heist? And romance? And I think that it’s going to be an enemies to lovers romance? Please check out the summary for yourself lol, because 90% of the time, if I mention a book on a TBR list, it’s going to be vague and probably very wrong (except for the goodreads excerpts I include lol).

The Inadequate Heir by Danielle L. Jensen

goodreads summary

A soldier raised as heir to an empire, Zarrah is motivated by two truths. The first is that the Veliant family murdered her mother. And the second is that her pursuit of vengeance will put every last one of them in their graves.

I’ve been saving this book as the first read of June because I’ve been waiting for this release for so long. It’s a third book in “The Bridge Kingdom” Series and we’re following the brother of the female mc from the first two books and a new female character who we were introduced to in the previous book. I’m so excited to dive into a political, atmospheric, fantasy romance and by the size and weight of this book, I’m sure I’m in for a ride.

Something Wilder by Christina Lauren

goodreads summary

Growing up the daughter of notorious treasure hunter and absentee father Duke Wilder left Lily without much patience for the profession…or much money in the bank. But Lily is nothing if not resourceful, and now uses Duke’s coveted hand-drawn maps to guide tourists on fake treasure hunts through the red rock canyons of Utah. It pays the bills but doesn’t leave enough to fulfill her dream of buying back the beloved ranch her father sold years ago, and definitely not enough to deal with the sight of the man she once loved walking back into her life with a motley crew of friends ready to hit the trails. Frankly, Lily would like to take him out into the wilderness—and leave him there.

Again with the covers that scream summer, Christina Lauren have pulled through! This book is gorgeous. I’ve heard that this book isn’t as romance forward but honestly, I don’t even mind. From what I’ve heard, this book has National Treasure and Indiana Jones vibes? I don’t know what I’m in store for but I’m ready for it.

The Infinity Between Us by N. S. Perkins

goodreads summary

Eighteen years of summers spent in a beach house in Ogunquit, Maine, have brought Violet Mitchell and Will Seaberg together. For two perfect, beach-filled months every year, they spent every waking minute together. First as friends, until one summer changed everything.

But before the two even had a chance to claim the love they’d spent their entire lives creating, disaster struck, tearing the two lovers—and their families—apart.

I don’t know how I came across this book, I think it was recommended to me on my goodreads but I’m so thankful for that. My last 5 star romance read was “Every Summer After” and it honestly filled a hole in my romance loving heart I didn’t know was there. There are so many aspects of this book that remind me of “Every Summer After”. The cover first of all is the biggest one. They both have this airbrushed, beautiful summer scene that isn’t too bold but is still gripping and gorgeous. This book like “Every Summer After” also features two friends who become a bit more than friends during summer trips and have a falling apart.
